Most waste problems come from a mismatch: the container is too small, the service schedule is off, or the equipment is not designed for the material and volume being produced. The best improvements usually come from tightening the system around staging, compaction, and consistent pickup coordination. A well-designed program can reduce trips, keep waste contained, and improve safety around loading areas. Here is a quick way to think about the most common equipment and waste streams, used correctly and only as needed within the same overall plan: Trash Compactor, Dumpster, Waste Management Compactor, Stationary Compactors, and Medical Waste. When these elements are selected based on real usage, they help limit overflow, keep materials secured, and create a smoother routine for staff. To keep the program simple and effective, focus on practical operating standards that are easy to follow and easy to measure: Set clear staging locations so waste does not migrate into walkways or customer-facing areas. Use labeled streams to reduce contamination and avoid extra fees from rejected loads. Align pickup frequency with volume peaks so containers do not overflow at the worst times. Train staff on quick, repeatable steps so the process stays consistent across shifts. Keep a basic inspection checklist to catch leaks, damage, and odor issues early. Track service issues and adjust before small problems become recurring disruptions. When your equipment and schedule match your reality, you gain control over labor time, reduce avoidable hauling, and improve site cleanliness. For many facilities, compaction alone can lower pickup frequency, which can also reduce traffic around the dock and improve overall safety. The most effective setups are the ones your team can use without extra steps or complicated rules.

Dear Mr. Markle,
I have been working in the Plant Operations of Hospitals for the past 20 years. During that time I have had the responsibility of maintaining various autoclaves for the treatment of biohazardous medical waste.
When I came to Doctors Medical Center a year and a half ago I found myself in charge of maintaining a Mark-Costello Co. autoclave that was nearly eight years old. After my past experience of trying to keep a high vacuum system with consistent problems in operation, I find maintaining the Mark-Costello gravity fed autoclave a pleasure, as there is seldom a malfunction. I attribute this to the fact they have kept the design simple with no need for highly technical maintenance and high dollar repair parts.
As a point of information, the Model we operate is a AS 512 equipped with a unique “pull out drawer” making it easy for the Housekeeping Staff to load. This unit has a capacity of approximately 750 lbs. per cycle.
We expect to keep our Mark-Costello autoclave in operation for another 8 years or longer !
Dear Mr. Markle:
San Ramon regional Medical Center has owned and operated a Model AS46 Mark-Costello Medical Waste Sterilizer for the past eight years. We are pleased with performance of this equipment and have had a fine working relationship with the Mark-Costello Company. The system continues to function well and allows our facility to avoid the liability and high cost of packaging and hauling untreated infectious waste.
We Anticipate several more years of operation from this waste treatment system

“We have been very pleased with the performance and the cost savings that the trash compactors from The Mark-Costello Company have provided to our school district.”
My name is David E. and I am responsible for a Mark Costello Co. Auto-Clave, at an inflight Kitchen out here in Kona Hawaii, that is overseen by the USDA / Custom and Borders, federal inspectors. (as you can imagine that is a challenge in its self).
The products that Mark Costello Co. is producing are of good quality. The auto – clave that I am responsible for works 24/7, with very few break downs. This is the only unit available in Kona, making daily operation is critical.
It is nice to know that when I call for tech support and parts, the courteous staff always responds promptly. Being out here in the middle of the pacific, that is crucial to our operation.
I would highly recommend Mark Costello Co.
By matching the right compaction equipment to your actual waste volume, Mark-Costello can significantly reduce how often you need pickups. Compactors consolidate material into denser loads, meaning fewer hauls per week. Over time, this directly lowers hauling fees, reduces dock traffic, and cuts the labor time your staff spends managing overflow.
Our 2 ram balers can compact a wide range of materials including OCC (old corrugated containers), newsprint, PET, aluminum and steel cans, plastics, and with the optional metals package, non-ferrous scrap like copper and aluminum.
Yes. Mark-Costello offers a free waste disposal audit for businesses in Paramount and throughout California. The evaluation reviews your current waste stream, container sizing, pickup frequency, and on-site staging to identify where you are overpaying or where small changes could prevent bigger problems like overflow, odors, or compliance issues.
When waste is not staged correctly, it can create slip hazards, pest problems, odor complaints, and customer-facing cleanliness issues. Mark-Costello helps businesses set up clear staging locations, labeled waste streams, and inspection routines that keep back-of-house areas safe and compliant with local and industry regulations — reducing the risk of rejected loads and extra disposal fees.
Yes. Mark-Costello’s equipment and service programs are designed to scale with your operation. Whether you are managing a single Paramount location or expanding to multiple sites, the team conducts periodic reviews of volume, service performance, and operational changes to adjust container strategy, pickup schedules, and equipment as your needs evolve.
